Resumo

One of the main characteristics of a historic house museum is its effort to keep the house's internal organization and the rooms decoration the way it used to be in the time of its dwellers or during a specific historical period. In this dissertation, I analyze the Casa de Rui Barbosa Museum – an institution with these charasteristics – based on a visitors studies done by the Observatory for the Museums and Cultural Centers in 2005. The results point at the possibilities of increasing the museum's flux of visitation, through the attraction of new kinds of visitors or the fidelity of its present visitors. It also detects weak points and suggests measures to improve the institution's performance in face of its public.
