Entre Vargas e Hitler - a disputa pela cidadania dos teuto-brasileiros entre o Estado Novo e a Alemanha Nazista

Resumo

This dissertation investigates the political and ideological changes in Brazil and Germany in the 1930s, a period of significant transformations in the political landscape of both countries. This research was conducted to highlight the emergence of new concepts of citizenship, influenced by distinct ideologies, which redefined the relationship between the State and the citizens. The study focuses on exploring the divergences between these concepts of citizenship and examining how the governments of Vargas and Hitler sought to ensure the loyalty of German immigrants in Brazil. As a method, the research analyzes telegrams between the German embassy in Brazil and the German Foreign Ministry, as well as reports from the Vargas government about Germans in Brazil and the policies to manage this community. The results highlight the complexity of the new concepts of citizenship and their implications for relations between nations, offering an analysis of the dynamics of loyalty and national identity in contexts of intense political changes. This work contributes to the understanding of the strategies of authoritarian states to shape citizenship and manage immigrant populations, highlighting the nuances of immigration policy and national identity in the contemporary era.
