Entre rochas e outros sereso organizar no Parque Nacional da Serra da Capivara

Resumo

This dissertation investigates how organizing takes place in Serra da Capivara National Park (PNSC), in Piauí, Brazil, from the perspective of Organization Studies. It starts from the understanding that Conservation Units (protected areas), although they constitute relevant institutional responses to the socioecological crisis, are established in territories that are already lived, meaningful, and contested. In dialogue with critical approaches to organizing, conservation and sustainability, the research shifts the analytical focus from the CU as an administrative entity to the processes through which the Park comes into being through the territorial relations that constitute it. Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative, subjectivist, and interpretivist approach, developed through a single case study, with interviews, document analysis, field notes, and qualitative coding. The findings were organized into five interpretive axes: (1) rupture, tension, and conflict; (2) everyday conservation practice; (3) the production and mobilization of situated knowledges; (4) collective arrangements; and (5) disputes over meanings and the production of belonging. The analysis shows that the PNSC is constituted through ambivalent relations between conservation and displacement, science and local knowledges, institutionalization and situated life. It concludes that organizing in the PNSC takes place with the territory, continuously producing a tensioned and unfinished Park-territory in which conservation, work, memory, knowledges, and belonging become inseparable dimensions.
