Elites agrárias, associativismo e representações do rural em Goiás (1930-1964)

Resumo

This thesis investigates the Goiás agrarian class elite, its class associations, and the representations about the rural in Goiás between the years 1930 and 1964. How did the Goiás agrarian class elite act in the political field in defense of its economic objectives and in the reaffirmation and effectuation of an agrarian vocation for the state of Goiás? We analyze the representations of rural life in Goiás during the 1930s and the emergence of models for the countryside different from the recurrent formula of latifundia. This work analyzes the two class associations most representative of Goiás farmers: the Sociedade Goiana de Pecuária (SPG) and the Federação das Associações Rurais de Goiás (FAREG) and their respective emblematic leaders, such as Altamiro de Moura Pacheco and Joaquim Câmara Filho. The thesis studies the demands and forms of political action of the members of the agrarian class elite represented by politicians such as Cônego Trindade, Jalles Machado and Domingos Vellasco. We will analyze which demands and projects were defended by the class associations and politicians that composed the Goiás farmers' class elite. The thesis also focuses on how the agrarian reform theme mobilized the agrarian class elite in Goiás in the early 1960s and how in the critical context there were distinct positions within the agrarian elite on the forwardings of the agrarian situation. With the mapping of the class associations and their leaderships, the analysis of the themes defended by politicians linked to the rural world and the various representations about the countryside and its problems, it was possible to perceive the existence of a class elite that acted for the reproduction of the agrarian vocation of Goiás and that verbalized the demands of a larger group.
