Resumo

The purpose of this study was to describe the main processes that impact operating room turnover to assess the importance of the support team in operating room performance, proposing improvements for the efficiency and productivity of the sector in a medium-sized private general hospital of a network of health care in São Paulo/SP. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. A bibliographical research was carried out to conceptualize the stages of assembly, circulation, disassembly and operating room rotation. An instrument called "Room Turnover" was developed and applied to collect operating room turnaround times, without the presence and presence of the support team, and later analyzed to verify the optimization of the operating rooms. It was found that, with the support team, there was a reduction in operating room turnaround time from 8% to 57%. With 81 types of surgeries analyzed, it was observed that 74 of these reduced operating room turnaround time from 22% to 50%, an outcome that had an impact on the productivity, optimization and quality of a surgical center. The optimization of room rotation allowed the expansion of 20% of surgeries in the institution's surgical map, a result of great relevance.
