Cultura de São Mateus-SPum olhar a partir da perspectiva dos agentes culturais sobre preservação da memória da região

Resumo

The research analyzes the cultural development of the São Mateus region, located in the eastern zone of São Paulo, from the perspective of local cultural agents. Through an empirical study with an ethnographic approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with representatives active between the 1980s and 2020s. These interviews were organized and released as a six-episode podcast season, with the aim of contributing to the preservation and dissemination of the memory of artists and the territory. The interviewees highlighted participation in the regional culture forum as a fundamental milestone for progress in the field. They also believe that the podcast can become another form of memory preservation, capable of bringing people closer together and promoting recognition of cultural agents. In this sense, mappings and records are tools that help avoid “starting from scratch,” reduce the feeling of isolation among cultural practitioners, and contribute to transforming modes of cultural production, articulation, and circulation. At the same time, the narratives reveal a continuing perception that public cultural policies remain distant and insufficiently focused on the preservation and appreciation of cultural memories in peripheral areas.
