Resumo

In the context prior to the Cruzado Plan, the theoretical formulations of Persio Arida, André Lara Resende and Edmar Bacha gained prominence for dealing with the inflationary phenomenon from the perspective of the distributive conflict between workers and businessmen. As these first efforts gave rise to proposals for stabilization policies, it is customary to point to a decrease in the importance of the distributive element in the works of the aforementioned authors, which would indicate a theoretical convergence towards the New-Keynesian paradigm. Despite the distributive conflict not being as much explicitly informed as the cause of Brazilian inflation – especially after the failure of the Cruzado –it continues to be mobilized in the authors’ efforts to think about stabilization plans. More than a conceptual evolution, there would be a change in the assessment of the possibilities of managing distributive conflicts through social pacts and monetary reforms, using demand policies to moderate income ambitions of different social groups.
