Resumo

This study investigates the critical success factors (CSFs) for the implementation of circular economy (CE) practices by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Brazilian textile sector. The research combines a literature review, based on authors such as Kirchherr et al. (2018), Galatti & Baruque-Ramos (2019) and Geissdoerfer et al. (2017), among others, and a single case study, adopted as a methodological strategy because it allows an indepth and contextualized analysis of a real company (Stake, 1998). Eight essential CSFs were identified and analyzed: technological innovation, transformation of business models, collaboration between partners, top management awareness, financial support, education and training, development of public policies and consumer demand. The case study revealed the importance of collaboration with partners and audits as triggers for circular practices, in addition to highlighting gaps such as the lack of government incentives and specific public policies. These relationships demonstrate in a concrete way how the EC CSFs are applied and adapted in the real context of a Brazilian textile company. The analysis also shows that the implementation of these factors does not occur in isolation, but rather in an interdependent manner, reflecting the complexity and challenges of the sector. It is concluded that the transition to EC is essential to strengthen the competitiveness, sustainability and resilience of SMEs in the Brazilian textile sector in the face of an increasingly demanding global scenario in terms of environmental goals.
