Resumo
The idea developed in the article is that Russia’s approach to the international economic crisis is singular, due to various aspects: there is a link between the policies of short and medium term, related to the immediate impacts of this crisis on the Russian economy, and the long term policies, related to its economic modernization project, to the diversification of the economic structure inherited from the soviet past; Russia has recently become a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and this demands adjustments of its economy to the conditions of international competition, reinforcing the long term policy of modernization as a means of creating permanent capability to confront recurrent crisis; the political framework of the country, in which the contest to the legitimacy of the recently elected power results in critics to the policy adopted to confront the crisis.
