Resumo

This research investigates suburban fashion in Baixada Santista as a form of resistance and expression of territorial identity in the 21st century. The narrative is established from the author's perspective as a native of the research area, highlighting the importance of fashion as a means of expression and ethnic and territorial identity. This is exemplified by the author through family stories, productions of local suburban fashion, artistic expressions from Baixada Santista such as funk and hip hop, including song lyrics, and clothing used in music videos, contrasting with media readings of the suburban areas by other social groups. Through the production of a documentary, the study aims to explore suburban fashion and its connection with territorial identity. The documentary, segmented into four episodes, focuses on prominent local fashion figures such as Lucas Nascimento (Tks Lucas) and Eddie Souza (Eddie World), Maria Eduarda (Marieta), and Cauê Santiago ($anti), who work with fashion production through fashion design, upcycling, customization, and curation of online thrift stores. The research seeks to contextualize Baixada Santista, its historical origin, socioeconomic reality, and the formation of these suburban areas. Through interviews and visual records, the documentary documents the routines and creations of peripheral fashion makers in Baixada Santista, following their challenges, access, creative process, and artistic expression. The research contributes to discussing the suburbans areas as an ethnic territory, highlighting fashion as a visual element of identification and territorial resistance. Through fashion, one can observe a deeper structure and worldview of what the periphery is. The documentary aims to not only showcase the creative processes and daily lives of these fashion influencers but also delve into the historical and socio-economic contexts that shape their work. By focusing on individuals who have turned their passion for fashion into a form of social commentary and resistance, the documentary highlights the intersection of culture, identity, and socio-political dynamics in Baixada Santista.
