Resumo

This article aims to analyze how interculturality has been developed as a way of integrating Latin America. Based on the case study methodology, we seek to understand the recent experience of two intercultural programs carried out in these tropics: IberCultura Viva, developed by the Ibero-American General Secretariat (Segib), and Mestizo, developed by the British Council. For this understanding, we adopt here as the main theoretical framework and thread of discussion the studies on hybridization carried out by the anthropologist Canclini (2008). Among the relevant results obtained, we highlight the perception of the diversified common spaces created by both initiatives, which enable much more than mere cultural mixtures; they establish new belongings and contribute to the sociocultural and economic development of the regions and agents involved.
Thus, two forms of integration of Latin America are effected – whether between countries in its region, or between a Latin American country and any other country in the world.
