A demografia do tráfico atlântico de escravos para o Brasil

Resumo

This work raises questions about the slave trade, which introduced more than four million Africans into the Brazilian population over 300 years. The bibliography on the subject is presented, starting from the nineteenth century and emphasizing the works written after 1960. Several aspects of the demography of the trade are studied: the estimate of the total number of Africans shipped to Brazil, the mortality in the Middle Passage, the magnitude and importance of the internal slave trade. New topics of study are suggested, such as the mortality among the slaves newly arrived in Brazil and the commercial aspects of the slave trade.
