A contribuição da gestão por processos na implementação da transformação digital

Resumo

Purpose – This study aims to identify what are the contributions of business process management practices to achieve digital transformation. Design/Methodology – It is a qualitative research of an exploratory-descriptive
 character as it seeks to understand how the performance of business process management takes place in the new business context of digital transformation. Data collection took place through the survey of documentation, participant observations and semi-structured interviews. Such information was then interpreted using the
 category analysis technique. Findings – It was identified that business process management and digital transformation share several common principles and that the implementation of actions by each one enhances the benefits for the other. Therefore, several strategic, tactical
 and operational practices and contributions from business process management for digital transformation were raised, as well as problems and necessary adaptations of
 the methodology for better integration and results in this new context. Research limitations – As it is a qualitative research with a non-probabilistic sample, this study does not allow generalizations of the results found. In addition, due to the fact that the researcher works at the company that is the focus of the study, there is a risk of a certain personal influence and partiality in the data analysis. This limitation was dealt mainly with the triangulation of the various data collection techniques used. Practical implications – The survey provides organizations with information on management practices and contributions through business processes that enhance and address their demands and requirements for digital transformation, indicating opportunities and alerts that companies should be concerned with in order to improve their results.
 Academic implications – The work unveils the relationship between two themes that have been studied separately, but little explored together in the literature, thus
 contributing to the evolution of both themes (digital transformation and process management) in academia.
 Originality – The literature is still not very empirically aware of the performance of business process management in the new business context of digital transformation.
 Therefore, this work seeks to explore this relationship, bringing new knowledge about the practices and contributions of business process management to the digital transformation.
