Welfare paradigms and health policy in Brazil

Resumo

The article presents an analysis of the National Health Policy and of its influence in the establishment of certain paradigms of assistance, especially considering these last decades. It also stresses the significant role played by different social agents, in the fulfilment of some special interests prevailing in the health sector, thus demonstrating thal lhe health needs of the population do not constitute the central concem both of the govemment and the hegemonic classes of society, in spite of progresses already made in the juridical and legal framework of the sector.
