Resumo

This study investigates the subjective experiences of professionals who work in a food industry organization, who went through a promotion process based on different hierarchical levels and different professional trajectories. As the investigation pillar, the research has the Model of Selective Optimization e Compensation -SOC recommended for the career development study. The model allows knowing the different strategies used by individuals to deal with the physical/biological, psychological, and social changes during the professional trajectory. Methodologically, the study is qualitative with a descriptive character. The method used is the case study, which allows a more in-depth analysis of the chosen topic. The sample consists of six professionals who occupy different positions within the labor market in Manaus, Amazonas (AM). The structured questionnaire model is applied to obtain the data, guiding the participant's profile; a semi-structured interview script and the comic book technique was used as part of the interviews. It is important to note that this study uses the SOC model's characteristics to visualize and understand the strategies that professionals who experience a promotion process use to rise professionally, despite the difficulties that this process can cause. As a result, it can be seen that professionals who experienced a promotion process pursued ways to overcome the obstacles that have arisen during the journey based on the stages of the SOC model, namely, the steps of selection, optimization, and compensation to maintain the level of professional excellence. Regarding the subjective experiences, the application of the comic book technique evidenced several emotions experienced by the professionals during the promotion process, such as, anxiety, tiredness, ambition, desire to grow, among others; likewise, the comic book technique revealed that professionals who grew up in a family with few economic resources but who had the figure of a father and mother at home responded more positively to the process of job growth when compared to professionals who grew up only with one of the two parental figures. Thus, the importance of the family for the construction of values that will help to face different conflicts throughout life.
