Resumo
This article aims at discussing the gradual politico-ideological changes in the orientation of the activities of town planning in England, by means of an analysis of the evolution of the applicable legislation from 1947 to 1990. Special emphasis is placed on the consideration of three main aspects, namely, the objectives of planning, the conditions of functioning of the institutional apparatus for State action and control, and the main financial problems involved in the management of urban planning.
