Resumo
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is often included in discussions on economic growth and development in emerging countries for the multiple positive externalities it may generate. In that sense, Brazil is one of the highest ranking FDI receivers, yet not much is known regarding Foreign Direct Investment attractors across the country's geographical divisions, often given the lack of disaggregated data. For that reason, scholars have not explored sufficiently the impact key local variables may produce upon FDI, as industrial agglomeration. By mobilizing a new dataset on the count of FDI transactions each Brazilian microregion received from 2011 to 2020 and their respective industrial concentration data, the results gathered in this study point that FDI is drawn to industrial clusters, as well as to big consumer markets and quality of human labor, while responding negatively to wage, heavy taxes, and competition.
