Terreno fértilaprendizados sobre adaptação às mudanças climáticas no semiárido brasileiro

Resumo

This study investigated climate change adaptation strategies in the Brazilian Semi-arid region, focusing on Serra do Inácio, a rural area between Piauí and Pernambuco. The relevance of the research stems from the global climate emergency, marked by rising average Earth temperatures and their impacts. The study applies the framework “Evolutionary Resilience and Climate Adaptation: a four-dimensional framework for resilience building” by Davoudi, Brooks, and Mehmood (2013), relating its dimensions - “persistence and robustness”, “flexibility and adaptability”, “preparation”, and “innovation and transformation” - to bridging concepts that contextualize the framework in the chosen setting. These concepts include coexistence with the semi-arid, social technology, social learning, and transformational adaptation. Interviews were conducted with individuals and local social organizations working on the topic, and the insights were categorized into each dimension through thematic content analysis. As a result, the framework, combined with the bridging concepts, proved suitable for the study. Its application in data analysis provided a robust account of adaptation practices, techniques, and tools, along with insights into areas for improvement in high climate-stress environments like the Brazilian Semi-Arid region.
