Resumo
Amidst the growing debate, sustainability in multi-tier supply chains (SMSC) is still addressed by some researchers without a unique or similar perspective, which makes the subject lagging behind within supply chain debates (Hartmann & Moeller, 2014; Wilhelm et al., 2016). Despite its relevance, surprisingly, only four literature reviews exist on the subject, however, with very different targets. Therefore, to provide a comprehensive and critical appraisal of SMSC studies, this research shows what exists and is missing in this important domain. This paper then discusses whether current SMSC research is robust enough to advance as a “potential field of research” or should only be used as a methodological lens of analysis.
