Resumo
In this study, two of the most relevant classification methods in the current context of chess will be examined: the Elo System and the Glicko System. The first section will address the significance of comparison and classification, both in everyday life and in the competitive environment, including a brief description of chess and the methods used to classify and compare its practitioners. The second section will encompass the theoretical framework, presenting the foundations, development details, and properties of the two evaluation systems. In the third section, the methodology employed to explore and compare the behavior and performance of the evaluation systems in various situations will be delineated, accompanied by the presentation of the functions developed for the simulation of the systems, with an explanation of the development steps. In the fourth section, the tests described in the third section will be put into practice, displaying the selected numbers and parameters, the results of empirical simulations graphically, and providing commentary on the key highlights. Additionally, an analysis of the results will be conducted, considering the distinctive characteristics of each evaluation system. Finally, in the fifth section, the study will be concluded with a discussion of the research’s importance, interpretation of the results from the author’s perspective, and suggestions for future investigations.
