Sistemas agrícolas tradicionaisreconhecer e valorizar modos brasileiros de cultivar a vida

Resumo

Brazil, a megadiverse country, is home to a wide variety of traditional agricultural systems. These food systems, with their ancestral practices and ways of life, play a crucial role in the conservation of natural resources and the culture of traditional populations. Through the generational transmission of knowledge, traditional agricultural systems demonstrate remarkable resilience in the face of the hegemonic agricultural model and its crises, functioning as true agricultural heritage and offering solutions to food insecurity and the climate crisis. Recognizing this importance, Embrapa, in cooperation with BNDES, and in partnership with IPHAN, FAO, MAPA, MDA, and traditional populations from the five regions of Brazil, held two editions of the BNDES Award for Good Practices in Traditional Agricultural Systems in 2019 and 2020, mapping Brazilian traditional agricultural systems. This research analyzed this mapping, relating it to the five criteria of the GIAHS/FAO (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) program and to Brazilian public policies for the conservation of biodiversity and cultural and agricultural heritage, as well as international agreements. The study, which used bibliographic review, document analysis, and questionnaires with experts, contributes to the digital publication of volume four of the Embrapa Collection on Traditional Peoples and Communities, offering innovative information on the recognition of traditional Brazilian agricultural systems and providing support for public policies.
