Resumo
This report analyzes the risks and opportunities of financial operations in sectors with intensive use of natural capital. Its objectives are to identify trends, progress, and challenges in the control of deforestation in soy, livestock, forestry, and palm oil production chains, highlighting the risks and opportunities for operations in these sectors by the banking sector, with the aim of conciliating the strengthening of agriculture and livestock with criteria for socio-environmental responsibility. The study was prepared by means of: i) bibliographic review, in particular on instruments for identification, measurement, and management of risk associated with natural capital for financial institutions and; ii) semi-structured interviews with 13 companies which are operational in Brazil and participate in palm oil, soy, livestock, and forest chains.
