Resumo

Objective: This work proposes an impact evaluation through an experimental research design on a program by Fight for Peace, a social organization based in Maré that works to modify the public safety paradigm in Rio de Janeiro and Brazil and has difficulty proving the impact of its actions in violence prevention. Methodology/ Analysis of the problem situation: Present in more than 17 countries, the organization has already received various awards and international recognition, but still has difficulties in demonstrating the impact of its work on the youth of Maré. This work analyzed 11 external evaluations carried out by the organization in an attempt to prove its impact and understood that they did not use the methodology capable of proving the causal relationship between its activities and the changes in the lives of young people. Results/ Intervention proposal: Finally, the work presented a proposal to carry out a randomized controlled experiment, which ensures a comparison of Fight for Peace students with young people of similar profiles, and thus measure the causal effect of the program. Practical contributions: Based on the evaluation results, it is expected to offer a highly credible study, increasing visibility on this type of action and contributing to a change in the public safety paradigm
