Resumo

Objective - To map the political relations of security, especially of the military police with the legislative and executive power, through nominations, warrants and political candidacies, during the entire period between the merger of the States of Guanabara and Rio de Janeiro until the year of 2019. Methodology - The research will address the mixed method, using quantitative and qualitative data, the analysis of the Case Study Method with quantitative sources using descriptive statistics. Results - It was demonstrated that security influences the Brazilian electorate, in addition to demonstrating the deputies' appeal to projects aimed at public security. Limitations - The temporal limitation of the work that led to the merger of the states in 1975, demonstrated the influence of Rio de Janeiro's policy on the number of candidates and on the electoral renewal in the state and, consequently, on the candidacy of police, firefighters and federal military personnel. Contributions to society - The main contribution is in identifying voter bias, as well as candidates' proposals in the area of public security and their consequences for the state of Rio de Janeiro. Originality - To our knowledge, this is the first study that relates to the election of candidates for public security in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
