Os Jovens adultos de 18 a 25 anosretrato de uma dívida da política educacional

Resumo

This text analyzes the educational situation of young adults from 18 to 25 years of age. Their insertion in the labor market provides the background for the rest of the analysis and we can clearly see a deterioration of the labor market for young adults with inadequate schooling levels. The educational system has systematically been unable to provide successive cohorts with these schooling levels. In spite of improvements in access to primary education, grade repetition still produces every year young adults with incomplete education. In addition, there is an age cohort, that today struggles with a poor insertion into the labor market, whose educational levels are even lower due to the fact that they passed through the educational system before the near universalization of primary education. The result is that while only 22% of young adults from 18 to 25 have finished secondary education, 46% have quit school as high school dropouts. The remaining 32% are still in school, 21% in secondary schools and 11% are still enrolled in primary education. The text also analyses the school in which young adults are enrolled and shows that most are in regular classes that are not adequate for their education. Adult and youth education (EJA) is still clearly inferior to what is necessary. Finally, we conclude by mentioning some successful EJA experiences that illustrate the characteristics that an EJA policy should have.
