Resumo

The contemporary landscape, marked by the emergence of climate crises and worsening political and social conflicts, challenges the traditional concept of technology, which stems from a capitalist logic in which technology is produced by and for private companies (Dagnino, 2010). Social Technologies (ST), the focus of this study, have emerged as crucial tools for generating social solutions and promoting social innovation. This work aims to elucidate the potential and challenges associated with the ST field, highlighting the importance of its interdisciplinary nature, which is fundamental for a comprehensive understanding of the concept and an effective evaluation of the projects implemented. The research follows two analytical perspectives: a theoretical one, accomplished by mapping academic developments and the main themes related to ST in Brazil; and a practical one, achieved through the analysis of the institutional dynamics and projects recognized by Banco do Brasil Foundation's Social Technology Award, a leading entity in supporting ST in the country. The choice of the theoretical-methodological framework of the social sciences as an analytical prism is justified, considering that cooperation between researchers and institutions represents one of the main challenges in the field. This approach allows for a detailed analysis of the State-Market-Society interaction, with a particular emphasis on the perspective of those directly affected. This perspective is essential for the ST field, as it not only highlights its transformative potential, but also stresses the urgency of integrating the social sciences more deeply into conversations about social innovation.
