O caso Proconsultembates na apuração das eleições para o governo fluminense em 1982

Resumo

This Master's thesis proposes a discussion about the events that marked the direct elections for governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro in 1982, the first since1965, when they were prohibited by the regime that took power in the previous year. This research highlights the company Proconsult, hired by the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) for the electronic vote counting. This event was marked by errors that raised strong suspicions of attempted electoral fraud, especially in the phase of vote counting, marked by the polarization between the candidate of the party that represented the regime (Moreira Franco, PDS) and Leonel Brizola (PDT), an opponent of the military, who had returned three years before the exile, benefiting from the Amnesty Law. After contextualizing the period in which the construction of new parties took place and the candidatures that represented them, this research specifically discusses the performance of the two main newspapers in Rio de Janeiro - Jornal do Brasil and O Globo - and also the electronic vehicles of the two groups, Radio Jornal do Brasil and TV Globo. The observation of the divergent positioning of the two vehicles, not only in the campaign but also in the vote counting, was one of the main focus of the research. In addition to reading the newspapers, the work drew on interviews with some characters who had a relevant role at the time, such as politicians and journalists.
