Notas sobre a relação entre a inflação, o 13º salário e o déficit público

Resumo

Several articles have been written during the last years showing the relation between inflation and real wages. This kind of models try to answer which is the real wage level associated with different rates of inflation. However, they don´t pay attention to some variables that affect the annual value of wages, from which the Christmas allowance is particularly important. This article has the purpose of evaluating this importance in the case of Brazilian economy. Inflationary advantages caused by the fact that people has an anticipation of 50 per cent of the Christmas allowance which does not suffer any correction when it is deducted in December are so discussed. The paradoxical conclusion is that within stability conditions the real value of this allowance can be a direct function of the inflation. Effects on the Government deficit are also discussed and it is shown that the ratio December wage expeditures/GDP has recently increased.
