Resumo

The dynamics of the homicide rate in Brazil between 2001-2018 presents a trajectory of a certain stability, configuring itself as a chronic problem with economic and social developments. In this scenario, the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (RMSP) stands out from the others for the drop in this rate and for presenting the lowest value at the end of the analyzed period. At the same time, the RMSP also saw a reduction in the multiple deprivation of its individuals. With this in mind, this work aims to evaluate the evolution of these multiple deprivations in the RMSP and to relate it to the homicide rate. In short, it observed that the situation of deprivation is multidimensional and determines the individual’s potential for criminal practice; of the selected variables, education and the individual’s condition of not studying nor having any income are those that have the greatest positive elasticities with the homicide rate; and the risks of punishing illegal activity discourages its practice.
