Minas Geraisíndices de casamento da população livre e escrava na comarca do Rio das mortes

Resumo

This article intends to analyse the data concerning to the free and slave population in the Comarca do Rio das Mortes in the area of Minas Gerais during the year of 1831. The principal source used was the general census in this specific year. That permits the reconstitution of this data. The results obtained are unusual, asfar as they show the frequency of marriage among the free population around 50% and among the slaves around 30%. The intention of this analysis is to contribute to the studies of the legitimate unions e.g., those celebrated by the Catholic Church, subject few explored by the researchers of the Brazilian past
