Mercado de trabalho informal e criminalidade nos municípios paulistas

Resumo

This dissertation analyzes the relationship between labor market informality and crime (theft, robbery, and homicide) in the municipalities of the state of São Paulo, based on census data from 2000 and 2010. Long Differences models are employed, controlling for municipalities’ initial conditions and exploring heterogeneity according to initial levels of education and income. The results indicate that informality, when considered in isolation, does not present a statistically significant relationship with variations in crime rates. On the other hand, education and income are strongly shown to be associated with the analyzed indicators of violence.
