Resumo

This study investigates the effects of the Minha Casa Minha Vida Program on the well-being of Brazilian families, with emphasis on the heterogeneity of impacts across income groups. The analysis is based on microdata from the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD), covering the period from 2002 to 2023, and combines propensity score matching with the differences-in-differences method to estimate causal effects associated with access to financed housing. The results reveal that the program’s impacts vary according to the socioeconomic profile of families. Among those in the lowest income bracket (Faixa 1), positive and statistically significant effects are observed on disposable income, ownership of durable goods, access to basic infrastructure, and years of schooling. In higher income groups, the effects are more heterogeneous, sporadic, or statistically insignificant, suggesting greater effectiveness of the program when directed at the most vulnerable segments of the population. Placebo tests corroborate the internal validity of the empirical strategy adopted.
