Resumo
The deforestation of the Amazon forest is the cause of many damages to the biodiversity, it accentuates forest fragmentation and the extinction of many species, as well as impacting the traditional communities that are dependent on the forest for their subsistence. In addition to calculating the extent and mapping the occurrence of deforestation, another challenge for the management and governance of environmental policies relates to the identification of the main drivers of deforestation, their temporal dynamics, and recognizing spatial patterns and clusters at different scales. This study objective is to analyze multi-temporal forest dynamics in a pilot area located in the northern part of the Amazon River. The analysis is based on remote sensing data and the MapBiomas Collection 8, supported by R package LandScriptDeforestMap, that aims to support territorial management. The study area encompasses the largest set of protected areas (39 protected areas, including indigenous lands and conservation units) located in the northern part of the Amazon River, accounting for a total of 392,315.5 km². A 50 km buffer zone was included to account for possible edge effects. From this study, it is expected to identify the main drivers for deforestation and more effective management and governance strategies for containing deforestation considering the observed territorial dynamics.
