Resumo
The discussion on industry and industrial policy has grown in importance in recent years. Among other reasons, the occurrence of deindustrialization processes in several countries has contributed to make this theme important. The aim of this paper is to analyze the changes in the Brazilian industrial structure, focusing in the participation of micro and small companies (SMEs). The background of the analysis is the implementation of a set of industrial policy measures in the 2000s, which had as one of its objectives the improvement of the presence of this segment of companies in the Brazilian industrial structure. The market share indicator (MS) was used to show changes in the participation of SMEs in the industrial structure, and was systematized considering the size of the companies, sector of activity and age in the period 2007-2016. The data used were obtained from Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the Annual Survey of Industry (PIA) and the Statistics of the Central Register of Enterprises (Cempre) As a main result, it was found that there
 was no important change in the MS of the SMEs during the period in which industrial policies were implemented, although differences in this trend were found in the disaggregation by sector and age.
