Estimação de equações de ofertas de exportação de produtos agropecuários para o Brasil (1992/2000)

Resumo

The objective of this study was to estimate export supply functions for Brazilian agricultural products. The analysis was based on a theoretical model, developed to sustain the specification and estimation of econometric models for different products selected for the study. The theoretical model considered that the export supply equation is derived from domestic supply and demand functions. The econometric models were adjusted by OLS and included error correction terms whenever the variables were co-integrated. The signs of the estimated elasticities were according to expectations, given economic relations of the model defined for the analysis. In general, the impacts of an economic growth upon exports were very expressive, confirming the general impression that a restriction in domestic growth contributes to the export of higher volumes of agricultural products. The exchange rate also showed to be an important factor to determine exports of Brazilian agriculture. The effect of this variable presented the strongest effect upon soybean (and products) and sugar exports. The international price showed to be an important determinant of sugar, soybeans and industrialized meat exports. Domestic prices tended to reflect the performance of domestic production with respect to demand. The results indicated that sugar exports were the most affected by domestic market behavior.
