Environmental implications of infrastructural developmentrural sanitation

Resumo

In the analysis of rural sanitation in Brazil, this article has reached the following conclusions: 1°) is a precarious one the present situation of services of rural sanitation, considering the enormous challenge presented by the mass of inadequately attended rural population, due to the absence of institutional capacity of local municipalities, mainly as concerns the proper performance of activities of operation and maintenance of the adopted systems in the localities; 2°) the inadequate sanitation in Brazil is basically a northeaster problem; 3°) there is a probability for greater social valorization of rural sanitation services, in the oncoming years, due to the improvement of health systems in general and to the greater importance attached to environmental protection.
