Resumo
Supplier diversity grasps a growing interest in supply chain management field, motivated by economic and social responsibility drivers’ programs and stakeholders’ pressure. However, procurement strategies are somehow controversial: it is a procurement trend to focus on optimization and downsizing of the supply base as an alternative to improve costs and buyersupplier relationships, and diversity-based organizations have difficulties to compete with bigger players. Moreover, it is not rare, due to social discrimination, that organizations reduce even more the chances of businesses owned by minority groups to participate in these chains. Based on that, this paper aims to explore how scholars have been addressing the ‘women-owned suppliers’ development and what are the barriers faced by this group of suppliers. By doing so, we review the literature of supplier diversity (specially women-owned suppliers). This review not only addresses an assessment of current studies, but it provides a comprehensive analysis of how procurement managers are addressing the topic in their policies and practices within and outside organizational boundaries. Our results suggested that the theme should be further investigated in order to improve the participation of women-owned suppliers in the supply base of corporations.
