Resumo

The objective of this work was to evaluate how the performance of ENEM candidates, in the Northeast Region of Brazil, is influenced by the various factors linked to the social and economic characteristics in which they are inserted in the period from 2015 to 2019. For this, information was collected from INEP regarding ENEM, which made it possible to estimate panel data models. The results were consistent with the economic literature and showed that, mainly, the parents’ education, the type of school and the availability of tools, such as cell phones and  computers, and internet access are determining factors for candidates located in the Northeast Region to increase their exam average. On the other hand, factors such as the candidate’s age and whether he belongs to the low-income economic class can reduce his averages in the ENEM.
