Resumo
This article examines the destination of grant funds collected from the privatization of drinking water
 and sewage services in state of Rio de Janeiro and the metropolitan region of Maceió. It compares, and
 contrasts the two cases, analyzing the similarities and differences between them. Data from the Transparency
 Portal of the respective states illustrate different strategies for allocating resources. In Rio de Janeiro, the
 resources went mainly to the budgetary functions urbanism and industry, while in Alagoas the sanitation
 function benefited most from grant resources.
