Crise de representatividade na América Latina na contemporaneidade

Resumo

The recurring popular dissatisfaction in regards to the quality and structure of latin american democracy has been a topic that has repeated itself both in the popular imagination as in academic literature, something seen from the first years of the return of democratic systems in the nations that spent large portions of the second half of the 20th century under military rule. Consequently, organizations such as Latinobarómetro, a thinktank specialized in analyzing democracy in Latin America, have demonstrated a reduction of Latin American societies´ initial optimism in regards to democracy that marked the aformented transition, as the promises of transformation and solution of secular issues that plague the region did not materialize. This dissatisfaction is also, consequently, noted in the specialized literature, as academics that have been accompanying this phenomena have been trying to understand what are the causes of the representative deficiencies in the institutions of power, that is, the lack identification between the common citizenry and their representatives. That follows sociological research, analysis and reform initiatives of contemporary political systems, which are all expressions of this crisis of representation. These recurring expressions inspired the creation of this dissertation, which seeks to contribute to these studies with research aimed at the characteristics of the Latin American crisis of representation, and the factors that affect it. Thus, this project´s objective is to analyze, trough the means of a scooping review, the thematic patterns and research focus of the research of different latinamerican authors on the topic of “Crisis of Representation”, up until the year 2023, to the end of identifying the different ways the authors complement or contrast one another in the subject, as well as what patterns can be observed in regards to this intent. Throughout the 26 articles resulted from the scooping review research process, it is clear to see the presence of four thematic lines: The political party crisis, populism, direct democracy, and the expansion of mass communication technology.
