Crescimento industrial em uma economia não exportadoraMinas Gerais, 1907-1920

Resumo

The main purpose of the article is to argue that the pattern of industrial growth revealed by Minas Gerais around the turn of the century incorporated elements of a nonexpert economy. The first section compares the industrial sector of Minas Gerais with the industrial sector of other coffee producing states.The second points out some features of the mineiro economy during the second half of the nineteenth century trying to show how difficult is to accept the view that Minas Gerais was an export economy. The third investigates in what extent industrial and coffee expansion went together. Finally, the fourth section analyses more closely the structure of the industrial sector in a further attempt to reinforce the case of industrial growth within a nonexpert environment.
