Comércio externo da Chinaefeitos sobre as exportações brasileiras

Resumo

The main purpose of this paper is to provide overviews of trends and main features in the bilateral trade between Brazil and China in recent years. An in-depth look at Brazil’s
 external sales to China between 1996 and 2002 is presented, in order to permit an estimate of the amount of gains and loses in competitiveness experienced by Brazil’s
 exports to the Chinese market during this period. These gains and loses are analyzed
 under many different aspects, such as product categories, productive sectors, technology intensity, dynamism of China’s imports and the performance of rival countries regarding Brazil’s exports to the Chinese market.
 Lost or non-sized opportunities by Brazil in terms of Chinese imports are also identified, specially in relation to those goods which, in spite of the fact that Brazil possessed comparative advantages in the international market, were either not exported to China during 2001-2002, or had their competitiveness diminished in the Chinese market between 1996-1997 and 2001-2002.
 Finally, this paper analyses the impact of Chinese competition over Brazil’s exports
 directed to the United States, the European Union, Argentina and Japan, as well as other six Asian countries – South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore –, herein collectively referred to as the Asia-Pacific block.
