Resumo

Today’s telecom industry has a strong competition made up of smaller and local operators and new competitors who previously acted as technology, application and even IT partners who no longer obey the limits of the connectivity value chain. Additionally, we have the "Digital Transformation" now present, with the junction and availability of new technologies (AI, Iot, Cloud, etc.) that allow generation of new products and offers. These elements together with external economic, social and regulatory factors generate a level of uncertainty as to how telcos can position themselves to defend and expand their scope in the next 30 years. Thus, the present work in the first part presents a review of the literature on telecom industry in Brazil, its evolution, attributes and current situation. In the second part, the research project is presented with the aim of carrying out a forward-looking exercise for the Telco sector in Brazil, operating in the B2B segment in 2050, with a prospective scenario approach through the combined GBN and Delphi research methodologies, with questionnaires applied to a selection of industry experts, which resulted in critical and refined uncertainties for driving forces in the next qualitative phase of the research, through interviews. As a result, we obtained four scenarios that describe different narratives: 1) Great Expansionists, 2) Big Telco-Tech, 3) InfoDemocracy and 4) Resistance of Special Locals. Even if it is not possible to precisely determine the future for operators, the conclusion of this work shows that each scenario can be an opportunity to transform in a way meant the telcos business model or even promote conditions of disruption in the sector.
