Atuação municipal no combate às mudanças climáticasa experiência de Salvador

Resumo

Through different international agreements, the International Community has been increasingly concerned in the last decades with implementing an agenda for guaranteeing broader sustainable development aligned with environmental preservation and mitigation of climatic changes. Concern and engagement of local governments with the topic is increasingly higher and cities may exert an important role in formulating public policies devoted to sustainable development, advancing in the climate agenda, and acting in sustainable manner. To understand the Evolution of discussion around the matter, the current moment of the climate agenda, the goals and the responsibilities adopted by national governments, this article focuses on a historical contextualisation of international discussion on climate policies and sustainable development. It focuses on the experience of the city of Salvador in elaborating a Plan for Climate Action served as a reference for strengthening the role of cities and local governments in the challenges related to climate change, as well as the paths taken to make the plans viable.
