Resumo
The text focuses on the relationship between public property and its appropriation by private interests. Links the phenomenon of private appropriation of public areas in the city of S. Paulo, with its history and that of the country, in relation to land acquisition by private owners. It sets out a systematic account of this phenomenon in the last decade of the 20th century along with spatial and quantitative statistical analysis, linking the appropriation of public city areas to a broad social phenomenon, by no means restricted to low income groups.
