A rethinking of tourism growth in the Northeast

Resumo

The article intends to position tourism growth in the Northeast starting from an analysis of State intervention both in urban spaces and tourism, in face of the nature of public policies for the sector, denominated urban-touristic plans. A correlation is established with life conditions in the region and a context is drawn, defining the actual moment at which tourism has its insertion into the logic of the third phase of capitalistic expansion that social scientists identify as globalization. The article ends by exposing the perserve effects of tourism, with an emphasis on child and juvenile prostitution, thus giving priority to an ethical positioning in whatever policy may be formulated and implemented for the sector.
