Resumo

This work aims at studying the maternal experience as regards the woman herself as a psychic being and her relation to her child. A theoretical analysis is made of the importance of the mother role in view of the psychic state of health of future generations, as well as of the psychological meaning of such experience to the woman. The theoretical referential used was the psychoanalytical one. Thus, the affectionatt and inconscientious factors were considered of first importance when analysing the problem. Notwithstanding, a cursory approach was used to social-cultural factors with respect to maternity, having in mind, however, to relate them, as much as possible to the first mentioned factors. The concept of inconscient and the meaning of accepting the inconscientious motivation as the principal determinant of the human behaviour are discussed in the work. Consideration is also given to the importance of the first mother-child relations, according to various theorists, with special emphasis to the mother role during these relations. At last, an analysis is made of the psychic state of health, or not, of the woman as far as the maternal experience (function) is concerned. This state of health is interpreted according to the affectionate and inconscientious aspects regarding the history of the first relations with the mother herself. Another analysis is made of the social influences of the moment with respect to maternity, with a focus on the importance and necessity of changes in the way of how to face it, at an inconscientious level, as wel as at a social one, with a view to the psychic integration of the woman with her feminine existence and psychíc state of health into future generations.
