Resumo

Purpose – This study intends to identify and analyze the advances and challenges in the implementation of the Electronic Medical Record in Primary Health Care in the state of Alagoas. Methodology – This is a quantitative, descriptive, exploratory, documentary study. The methodology sought to achieve specific objectives, created from consultation of more recent journals and literature on the subject, as well as data collection and analysis. Through a bibliographic and documentary analysis and the primary data collected, it was possible to examine the theme's characteristics. Findings – It was found that the incorporation of the PEP is a process being implemented in Brazil. The implementation of the PEP in Alagoas, presented weaknesses related to infrastructure, deficiencies in the training of the professionals
involved and resistance of professionals to new technology. It was observed that it is necessary to evaluate the implementation planning for the national scope, considering its complexity. Limitations – As it is a descriptive study of the unique case of computerization in the state of Alagoas, the main limitation of the study lies in the impossibility of generalizing its findings, without this representing a decrease in the wealth of knowledge of the analyzed experience. Practical implications – To describe the successful analysis of the Pilot Project developed in a federative unit of Brazil, which had the implementation of the Primary Health Care Computerization program successfully implemented in 48% of the municipalities, therefore, it had a positive demonstrative effect for expansion to the other federative entities. Social implications – To demonstrate that, despite the difficulties inherent in its implementation, the electronic patient record has brought effective advances to the
region, whether in terms of improving the quality and access to health services in the state. As well as for health professionals and local managers, it contributed to the exchange of more qualified information and access to the population's health data in a more assertive and quality way. These benefits go beyond just computerizing the
public health service. Originality – This study analyzes the advances of the new electronic health record, the PEC e-SUS in Primary Health Care, after its implementation in Alagoas.
